Checklists – Team building in the complex environment

22 Jul

People Excel to solve complex problems. Unfortunately, people tend to make simple errors without a reliable road map or list operations. In the digital age, we are surprised at the ability of computers to solve problems. But the ability of computers to solve problems is limited. Computers are fast and precise. But they are still unable to solve the difficult problems we face every day in our professional lives. We people need help. Need other people to help us to solve complex problems more efficiently. But we also need money to help prevent “stupid” error that occurs in joints previously engaged in solving complex problems. Checklists can help us do this. Working in a complex environment? Before you answer, you know what is “complex” actually do? Chances are “complex” is more complicated than you think. Unless you are familiar with the theoretical complexity science may think “complex” and “complex” has a similar effect. You can even find some dictionaries that will tell you they are synonyms. But the cutting edge of science and organizational studies will tell you that there are important differences between these concepts. Complicated is the opposite of simple. But “complex” indicates the severity that is confusing greater. Navigating complex situations all in one transaction list, it’s easy, and even things that are complex, if an effort is necessary to reduce or mapped. Computers Excel for these types of problems. Organization where you work, where much of it is very complicated. It can be a complex structure, displacement maps and documents the process, wear mass standards and manuals and so on. But these complex things that do not necessarily make your business complex. One element that makes the complex organizational systems of human relationships in it. These relationships are interdependent and are in a constant state of change. Day to day human interaction is significantly complex and beyond the capabilities of computer processing. In addition, your organization is in the larger external system on the market or the global economy, which is considerably more complicated. Only humans can evaluate these complex interactions and problems, but imperfect that arise. For things that are complex, only general statements about relationships can be made. They go beyond the limits of predictability. Complex systems, possibly as a company where you work, and certainly live in a society that has the qualities of diversity, interconnectivity and interdependence, while showing adaptability to changing circumstances. Change, especially rapid change, is one of the fundamental characteristics that identify complex systems. Complexity is what makes the decision-making in turbulent markets today are so difficult and requires a common strategy to build a team to solve problems. In a world of modern business is an attack on complex problems that bombard us with increasing frequency. In such an environment, few, if any, individuals have the knowledge, experience, or even a genius can handle them alone. Even the most competent persons only humans and prone to error free operations list in hand. And as research and mountains of anecdotal evidence that often the simplest and most obvious things that we delude ourselves. The human brain is powerful indeed. She excels in analyzing complex and even complex issues. As we focus on such a complex issue, often stress-inducing time pressure, we become overwhelmed and filled task. When this happens, we miss simpler, more routine tasks or activities. These are steps and tasks that are easily treated through checklists. Most recently, no profession brought so much self-criticism in these types of simple errors in medicine. In the famous surgeon and writer Atul Gawande is quite clear in his latest book, Manifesto list, these errors are often due not team building, based on effective communication and coordination between the teams in the operating room. Gawande research and experiments on the World Health Organization has led to a 36% reduction in major postoperative complications and a 47% reduction in deaths after operations through the introduction of something as simple as an operation list. Using a list of operations to reduce errors and improve efficiency lists have been a powerful simple tool in the fight against failure when fighting difficult and complex problems. Their value is proven, but their use in most industries are either inconsistent or nonexistent. The aviation industry is the use of checklists for over 70 years, while many other industries have come to recognize their importance and expansion of its use. Lack of recognition of the benefits of the lists comes from the misconception that lists only apply to complex process steps or emergencies. You can view the lists in such a light is confined to miss more and perhaps larger opportunity. True force operations list is that it can provide team and greater discipline. Checklists, when properly developed and tested, provide each team member the power to prevent errors. In the field of medicine that doctors have historically fluctuated authoritarian and autonomous authority over other professionals, Atul Gawande shows how a transaction checklist nurses to question doctors and improve the overall functioning of the medical team. It has long experience in military, civil aviation and the areas where the lists are approved by crew members to question their pilots and to prevent damage or disaster. They are able to do so because the operations list is a procedural tool that connects complex problem solving and team interaction with basic and simple aspects of the hand. Checklists provide a focal point for basic and simple tasks, where our higher order problem solving skills to distract or overwhelm us. Checklists not and can not replace skill and experience. It is not their function. Although generally an operation list rescue forces tackle big teams and individual processing errors. He gives us not only a crutch for our poor memory or lack of knowledge but also a focal point for cooperation and high performance teams.
